Dr. Katelynn Boerner (she/her/hers) received her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She completed her pre-doctoral residency in Child Clinical Psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, and a postdoctoral fellowship in somatic symptom disorders and inpatient medical psychology at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Boerner is fluent in English and conversational French.

Dr. Boerner provides evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression, coping with medical conditions/procedures, somatic symptoms, and concerns related to eating/feeding, toileting, and sleep. She has a special interest in working with children and youth who are living with medical conditions, particularly gastrointestinal disorders. Her practice is informed by science, and primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, incorporating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing as appropriate.

Dr. Boerner also provides Family Therapy, and is trained in Emotion-Focused, Emotionally-Focused, and Solution-Focused approaches to family therapy.

Dr. Boerner aims to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive of all bodies, abilities, and identities, and is actively working towards a practice rooted in cultural humility.

In addition to her work at Cornerstone, Dr. Boerner is a Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at UBC, where she conducts research in the area of gender, sex, and pediatric psychology, and provides care for children and youth with chronic pain at BC Children’s Hospital. She belongs to several professional organizations, including the Society of Pediatric Psychology and the Canadian Psychological Association. She is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (#2395).
