Dr. Alex DiGiacomo

Associate

Dr. Alex’s practice is grounded in respect for her clients and in the use of evidence-based treatments (i.e. those that have been scientifically tested and shown to be effective). Delivered in creative and fun ways, she tailors these therapies to the unique needs and personality of her clients while cultivating a warm, rewarding, and productive therapeutic environment.

While Dr. Alex’s primary treatment approach is cognitive-behavioural, she is mindful of reinforcing the parent-child relationship and routinely draws on attachment principles as well as values-based, dialectical, and emotion-focused techniques. Dr. Alex has a particular interest in supporting skillful and confident parenting and in equipping children to conquer fears and challenges. She works with young people who are experiencing difficulties with post-traumatic stress symptoms, anxiety, selective mutism, emotion-regulation and behavioural problems, toileting issues (e.g. bedwetting), and challenges related to neurodevelopmental disorders.

Dr. Alex is the author of 6 peer-reviewed journal articles and remains active as a researcher. She currently holds a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Alex is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (Registrant #02780) and is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association.
