Dr. Carol Somers

Dr. Somers is a highly skilled and compassionate clinician with a warm and friendly nature. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University College Cork, Ireland. She also completed a BA in Applied Psychology and an MA in Applied Psychology at the University College Cork, Ireland. 

She is passionate about working collaboratively with clients of all ages to support them in reaching their true, full potential. She believes that establishing a strong rapport with her clients is essential for effective therapy and is deeply committed to understanding her client’s unique needs and circumstances. She incorporates fun and creative approaches within her work while helping individuals develop effective coping strategies, build resilience and enhance their overall wellbeing 

Dr. Somers is trained and experienced in providing psychological services to children, adolescents and adults in a variety of services. She is dedicated to providing quality psychology services to all the clients she has the privilege to work with and is guided by best practice and evidence-based guidelines. As Dr. Somers’ training was integrative, she draws upon a number of different therapeutic approaches to best meet the client’s needs, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and mindfulness-based interventions. She also applies principles from attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), systemic therapy, and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). 

Dr. Somers has worked in community and tertiary child and adolescent mental health services, adult mental health services, disability services, and within the justice system. Since moving to British Columbia from Ireland, Dr. Somers has worked at the Provincial Pediatric OCD Program, and the Child and Family Service at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Somers is presently undergoing the registration process with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.
