Dr. Katelynn Boerner
Associate, Registered Psychologist
Dr. Katelynn Boerner (she/her/elle) received her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She completed her pre-doctoral residency in Child Clinical Psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, and postdoctoral fellowships in somatic symptom disorders/inpatient medical psychology, and chronic pain at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Boerner is fluent in English and conversational French.
Dr. Boerner provides evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression, coping with medical conditions/procedures, somatic symptoms, and concerns related to eating/feeding, toileting, and sleep. She has a special interest in working with children and youth who are living with gastrointestinal disorders. Her practice is informed by science, and primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, incorporating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing as appropriate.
Dr. Boerner also provides family therapy, and is trained in Emotion-Focused, Emotionally-Focused, and Solution-Focused approaches.
Dr. Boerner aims to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive of all bodies, abilities, and identities, and is actively working towards a practice rooted in cultural humility. She is a mental health service provider with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).
In addition to her work at Cornerstone, Dr. Boerner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UBC, where she conducts research in the area of gender, autism, and pain, and she works as a Psychologist with the Complex Pain Service at BC Children’s Hospital. She holds leadership roles in the Society of Pediatric Psychology and the International Association for the Study of Pain, and is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association. She is registered as a Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (#2395).
