Dr. Tara Jukes

Associate, Registered Psychologist

Dr. Jukes earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and completed her clinical residency at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). She has extensive training and experience working with children, adolescents and families coping with a wide range of psychological challenges. 

Dr. Jukes strives to provide a friendly, collaborative and engaging experience for families. She uses a warm, supportive style to help address a wide variety of concerns including anxiety (e.g., phobias, separation anxiety, generalized worries), repetitive behaviours (e.g., tics, skin picking, hair pulling, obsessions and compulsions), and psychological challenges related to medical concerns (e.g., managing pain, coping with illness, adherence to medication). Dr. Jukes also provides support for parents coping with challenging situations with their children.

Dr. Jukes is passionate about using the most up to date, evidence-based treatments to help children and families reach their therapeutic goals. A central part of her approach includes individually-tailored, evidence-based treatments drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Habit-Reversal Training (HRT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Dr. Jukes also completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Neuropsychiatry Clinic at BCCH where she gained advanced training in both the assessment and treatment of tic disorders and also adapting evidence-based interventions to support neurodivergent children/youth. She co-developed the Tic Busters Group and has authored and contributed to numerous publications and presentations in this area.

In addition to her work at Cornerstone, Dr. Jukes is a Staff Psychologist in the Medical Psychology Program at BCCH. In this role she provides assessment and treatment for children and families with medical issues and associated challenges. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Jukes is a member of the BC Psychological Association and is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (Registrant #2215).
